I am going on another vacation soon (early August) and this time my girlfriend is also going (although she's going somewhere else!) which means we are looking for a place for Simon to stay (or looking for someone to come and feed Simon for us.)

While on this search I came across a service called Sittercity which is a service for finding sitters whether they be baby sitters, house sitters, or pet sitters.

What's so cool about this service is that it allows the parents or pet owners to rate the services of their sitters so that when you choose a sitter you'll be able to look at the ratings given by others.

I'm not sure if we'll be using this service for Simon but I think it's pretty cool and I wanted to pass it along!

Need a catsitter? Find the most qualified sitters at Sittercity.com.

Just got another cat or thinking about getting another one? There are some things that you'll need to do when your new cat enters your home.

1. Another Litter Box

Your new cat may not want to share the litter box with your old cat(s) and visa versa. Sure sometimes cats can share litter boxes (especially if they are brought up as kittens together) but usually when you are adding a new cat that is not familiar you will need to get another litter box. You should ideally place it in another room from the current box.

Pictured below is an extra fancy (and expensive) self cleaning litterbox called the "CatGenie" (click on the photo to learn more)
CatGenie Cat Box (21

2. Additional places to scratch

If you've already got places where your current cat(s) do their scratching you may be thinking your new cat will want to join right in and scratch there as well but those places will be filled with the scents and markings of your current cat(s) and your new cat will probably not want to do his thing there. After awhile once they all get to know each other they may be able to share scratching posts but at first you should probably get a new scratching area just for your new cat. You want to make sure your new cat feels comfortable and also that your current cats don't feel threatened.

Check out the scratching post below from PetCo (click on the photo to learn more)

3. Additional Food / Water Bowls

You'll also need additional food and water bowls and they should not be near each other. Eventually once the new cat grows used to the old one(s) and visa versa they may have no problems eating from the same bowl.

The Russian Blue cat breed (sometimes called the Blue Russian) is one of the oldest cat breeds in the world. Russian Blues were being shown at cat shows as early as 1900.

They were originally shown in Britain (having been taken home by British seamen in Russia) as Archangel Cats. They were called this because they were taken from the Russian port Archangel on the White Sea.

They have a good temperament and they like a peaceful home life. They are known to become very attached to their owners. Some Russian Blues will even refuse to eat if their owners are away.

Russian Blues usually treat strangers with distrust until they get to know them. This should not be considered fear. They usually only like to lay in the lap of their owners.

As you would imagine most Russian Blues have a "blue" color (looks like gray to me, but that's another matter) as can be seen in the photo below. But there are also white and black Blue Russians.

In the first month of pregnancy there are usually no noticeable changes in the appearance of a pregnant cat although it common for their temperament to change. When a cat becomes pregnant she usually will become quieter than she was before. She will also usually sleep more than normal.

One of the first physical signs of a pregnant cat will be when their nipples turn from a pale color to brighter more reddish color. The hair around the nipples will also start to clear away.

Starting around the 5th week of pregnancy the pregnant cat will begin to increase in size.

Although it may make common sense the size of the cat during pregnancy does not actually reveal much about the amount of kittens inside of her.

How long is a cat's pregnancy? Between 60 to 70 days with 65 days being average.

Want to know more about how to care for your cat during her pregnancy? Look into the Cat Care Fundamentals eBook.
