This is the latest submission from Rose. This cat is called ALBERTUS MAGNUS (loosely translated from latin this is Fat Albert.)

He was found as a stray brought into a shelter and is now on a diet. He is available for adoption from Friends of the Attleboro Animal Shelter in Attleboro, Massachusetts.

Rose (one of our top cat picture submitters!) let me know about an organization she is a part of called Angelcat Haven. I sent a check to this orgnization in the name of MyCatWearsClothes.com and I also thought it would be a good idea to make a post about this group so that others could have a chance to contribute in whatever way they can whether it be through donation or lending some sort of service or just helping to spread the word.

Rose told me that people have offered services ranging from webhosting and webdesign (www.AngelcatHaven.com - under construction as of now) to gifts like a pound of catnip!

Angelcat Haven is a newly formed, all volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing the homeless and stray cats of Plainville and surrounding towns that are in need of a HAVEN while waiting for their loving new homes.

This organization was formed to help save a 4 month old stray kitten named Maddie, who was turned away from other shelters. She was given to us with a wound of an unknown origin, (requiring a 6 month quarantine) and a broken leg. We fought for 5 days to save her but could not. Maddie's wounds were just too extensive for her little body to handle. Not all stories have happy endings, but although she was small, she had a huge impact on our lives- she is our Angelcat.

Angelcat Haven's mission is to try to help the cats who occasionally fall through the cracks when other placement fails, and the local shelters just don't have the room.
Our long term mission is to work on reducing overpopulation through education, promote reduced cost spay-neuter programs, and institute community trap and rescue programs.

We put every effort, where possible, into working with and socializing the abandoned, stray and feral cats that we rescue so that they can live out their lives in a warm, loving home.

The members of Angelcat Haven have many years of experience in caring for, fostering, and rescuing cats.

Formed in November 2006, we are a new group needing assistance in all areas. We can't do it without your help.

You Read That Right!

One Cat Drawing Over (and Pheonix's check will be in the mail tomorrow!) and a New One Just Begun! (John Lennon reference?)

The next random cat drawing for a $25 prize will be on February 14th (Valentine's Day) and all you have to do to make sure your cat is eligible for the drawing is to send in a picture of your cat with a VALENTINES THEME by February 13th! Don't wait till the last minute! Let's get those submissions coming in! I may have a surprise prize for some EARLY SUBMISSIONS!

The rules for submission are simple - There must be some sort of valentines theme to your picture. Here's some examples of what I'm looking for - Cats + Hearts, Cats in Pink, Two Cats Kissing, A Cat and a Dog Kissing.. ? Let your imagination run wild.

I would also much prefer new fresh photos you take just for this site - Now I'm not going to go scouring the internet to see if these are new photos or not but new photos are preferred! If you have some really great older photos that's great! (of course I can't accept any photos you've already sent me!)

Looking forward to seeing some great submissions for this drawing. This is a pretty easy way to have a chance at winning a prize. And your odds are quite a bit better than the lottery! (Unfortunatly I do not have a million dollars to give away!)

Here's a short "documentary" video of how Simon chose Pheonix as the winner. I'm not sure if this is how we'll do it next time or not. Hopefully next time we'll have a lot more entries and I'll use a random number generator or something like that to choose the winner. The point is that the selection of the winner is completely random so anyone who submits their cat picture has a chance to win. We play no favorites here and we aren't just giving away the prize to a friend! (things I can imagine being suspicious about if I was you) - It's important to me that the winner be completely random so everyone who submits has a chance to win! (Although I'm also considering having a vote from members of the cat forum in the future, maybe when we have more members in the forum... btw - JOIN TODAY!)



If the video's a bit much (and sorry for the cracks in the sound and everything, my computer is giving me trouble with video capture lately) Here's how we got the winner of the prize in a litle written step by step synopsis:

1. Wrote each of the 9 cats names on a small piece of paper and crumpled it into a ball. (at this point I have no idea which cat's name is on which piece of paper)

2. "Flavored" each ball of a paper with tuna (Simon the cat's favorite!)

3. Tossed the balls of paper on the floor

4. The winner is the one that Simon went up to sniff first!

I'll be uploading a video later on tonight or tomorrow to show the random selection process we used to choose the winner. Simon the spokescat was very much involved in choosing the winning cat!

I was finally able to record Simon meowing. I think he has a very distinctive cat meow ... or atleast I haven't heard any cat that meows quite like he does before! Unfortunatly this is a very short recording (2 seconds) and it's 2 of his meows. They sound very similar to each other but it's not the same one twice - these are actually 2 different meows! This was recorded with a rather low quality microphone so there's some background noise. Anyway now I finally have something to put up in the cat meows section!

Catnip! I love to watch cats play with catnip. They really go nutty for it. (although I've seen some cats that don't seem to really react to it, luckily Simon loves it!)

I've just got done reading the Cat Care Fundamentals eBook and it's truly a huge amount of cat information. It includes lots of general cat information about cat history and cat breeds and it also contains really great information on how to better understand your cats behavior and how to modify cat behavior problems. It also has a great deal of information in the cat health area to help you diagnose any cat health problems your cat may have. I highly recommend the cat care fundamentals eBook for any cat owner! You can either read this right off your computer (in PDF) format or you can print it out if you prefer reading that way!
