This is a question that was recently asked on the cat forum so I thought it would be good idea to do an entry about it!

The first thing to consider when wondering whether or not your cat has become pregnant is to know that cats can only become pregnant when they are in heat.

How Can I Tell If My Cat Is In Heat?

Most cats in heat are quite obvious about it. They will usually be very noisy during this time and they will also tend to be more affectionate than usual. If you stroke their backs they will often press the rear part of their body up and the front part towards the floor. Although most do make it clear they are in heat, not every cat makes it so obvious.

How Long & How Often Is My Cat In Heat?

It usually lasts about 5 days. It can can range anywhere from 3 days to 7 days. How often? This really depends on the cat. Some may go into heat almost every month while others may only go into heat every 6 or even 12 months!

What Are The Signs Of Pregnancy?

Cats usually (but not always) become more quiet after they become pregnant. They tend to sleep more than usual.

Her appearance will normally not change noticeably in the first 3 to 4 weeks of her pregnancy. Around the 4th week you can notice some changes in physical appearance such as the hair around the cat's nipples clearing away and the nipples themselves turning from the usual pale shade to a more rosy color.

At around the 6th week of pregnancy she will begin to expand generally. You cannot tell how many kittens your cat is carrying by her size.

How Long Does A Cat's Pregnancy Last?

65 days on average, or about 9 weeks. This can vary a bit from cat to cat from about 60 to 70 days.
