Just got another cat or thinking about getting another one? There are some things that you'll need to do when your new cat enters your home.

1. Another Litter Box

Your new cat may not want to share the litter box with your old cat(s) and visa versa. Sure sometimes cats can share litter boxes (especially if they are brought up as kittens together) but usually when you are adding a new cat that is not familiar you will need to get another litter box. You should ideally place it in another room from the current box.

2. Additional places to scratch

If you've already got places where your current cat(s) do their scratching you may be thinking your new cat will want to join right in and scratch there as well but those places will be filled with the scents and markings of your current cat(s) and your new cat will probably not want to do his thing there. After awhile once they all get to know each other they may be able to share scratching posts but at first you should probably get a new scratching area just for your new cat. You want to make sure your new cat feels comfortable and also that your current cats don't feel threatened.

3. Additional Food / Water Bowls

You'll also need additional food and water bowls and they should not be near each other. Eventually once the new cat grows used to the old one(s) and visa versa they may have no problems eating from the same bowl.
