Speaking Cat
When I was young (8 or 9 I think) I remember having an audio cassette recorder that I would use to record my cat's meows. I would then play back the meows to the cat later and write down his reactions. The idea being that I would figure out what the different meows meant to the cat so that I could speak (and listen to) cat. As you might imagine this didn't work so well.

Any other people out there ever try to speak cat?

I comunicat with my cat by speaking to her in my regular voice and I ask her what does she want and she will sometimes go were she wants to go. Like in the morning when we get out of bed the first thing she wants is to eat breakfast and she will meow and I will ask her in spanish what does she want and she will open the door to were I keep her food and meow. That is about it.
